Halfway Home

Well, we are halfway done with our second season, and the playoff race is beginning to take shape. The Family Store (6-1) rule the Western Division; The Curs (6-1) lead over the Dominators (5-2) in the East; and four other teams seem left to battle for the final wild card spot, with the Sack (4-3) narrowly leading that pack.

Here's a rundown of all the teams:

West:

Store (6-1): Quietly the best team in the league. Trying to run away with the division, but the Sack may end up have something to say about that.

Sack (4-3): Looking legit at the moment (95 ppg), but their W-L-W-L pattern means they are due for a slip up this week against... Wonderboy?

Force (3-4): If Brady/Moss/Welker keep it up, Harstad may have to change his team's name to the Patriots, because they will be responsible for most of his team's points. Have never beaten the Store; this week would be a good time for a first.

Shatners (3-4): Sneaked away to a 3-0 start, but now we see what the team is really made of. Now at 3-4, the Shatners need to pull themselves together to have a shot of staying in the playoff race.

Wonderboy (2-5): Only wins have come against teams ranked same or lower in the standings. Poorest offense in the league will need to get in gear to overtake even the Shatners.

East:

Curs (6-1): Not a stellar performance in Week 7, but still tops in this division at 103 ppg. They can play spectacular offense when motivated, now the trick is to keep that up every single week. No one wants to play them, though, especially the Schrooms.

Dominators (5-2): Slip up in Week 7 against the Sack raised some eyebrows, though the DOM still averages just a tick under 100 ppg. With two games left against the Curs, those contests just might determine the division winner.

Schrooms (3-4): The champs are 1-2 at home so far, a trend that will need to be reversed this week against the Dominators. After Ronnie Brown's injury, perhaps the Schrooms would like to have the Gore-Johnson trade reversed?

Vengeance (2-5): With an upset or two, they have a chance to finish at .500 and possibly eek into the playoffs. But players need to get healthy for that pipe dream to come true. 78 ppg is not going to get the job done.

Lauber (1-6): Team is 0-6 when scoring 81 or less, but undefeated (1-0, but still) when scoring 82 or more. They average 76 points, so an extra TD each game would be enough to finish at 8-6, right? Then, maybe a playoff berth?? Right???

This week's Game of the Week: Dominators (5-2) at Schrooms (3-4).

At the one-quarter point...

The 2007 season is 4 weeks in, and everything is still wide open. Every team in the league is within 2 games of its division lead, and the East-West interdivision rivalry stands even at 10 games apiece. Each division has a pair of 3-1 teams, one team at 2-2, and two teams down at 1-3. But starting in Week 5, division play begins and anything can happen then!

The Dominators and Curs lead the East, with the surprising expansion Vengeance close behind, while the Store and Shatners sit atop the West, and the Sack lurk just one game back.
